Replacing the fuel filter on most types of cars is relatively easy.

The reason you replace a fuel filter at a certain time because it needs to continue to trap dirt in the fuel before it can get to the engine. A clogged filter can reduce fuel pressure. It can damage the fuel pump as well.

If you not sure how to replace the fuel filter yourself then do not take a chance.

You need to locate the electric fuel pump fuse and disable it. Make sure the handbrake is on and the car in neutral.

Run the engine for a minute or so. This is just to relieve pressure. Disconnect the battery.

Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter is located under the car. Make sure you have a bucket under the filter before removing it due to access fuel dripping out.

Remove the two fuel lines from either end of the filter.

The nozzles on the filter can be quite long, so this might take some wriggling.

Tip the ends of the fuel lines towards the bucket as they come off to catch any leftover fuel.

Insert the new filter into the bracket in the same direction as the old one. Make sure you compare the old fuel filter with the new fuel filter and check if it is correct.

If the fuel filter clips break, don’t drive your vehicle until you replace them. This can be very dangerous.
